MUA | EVER AFTER MATTE PALETTE

the minute i heard whispers about an all matte eye shadow palette being released by a high street brand, with a high street price tag, i couldn't have been more excited! matte eye shadows are my favourite but they are very difficult to come across among cheaper brands, so i had high hopes for this release! i was also pretty excited as my all time favourite eye shadow is from mua, mua matte eye shadow in shade 17, so was excited to see what else they could bring to the table. at first glance, this looks like the most amazing, budget palette ever with the perfect shade range in it, but, i have to say, this doesn't live up to expectations.

top row, l to r: unwrap, butter, bare, taffeta, fade bottom row, l to r: penny chino, truffle, fog, smoke
the top row are the cooler toned, base and highlight colours and the bottom row are the darker, warmer toned, smokey eye colours. there is a perfect range of colours here, you could create a daytime look or a smokey evening look, it would be an excellent palette to travel with. i was particularly looking forward to using the lighter colours all over the lid day to day, but unfortunately, this palette is just pretty rubbish really. the lighter colours are so so so pale and unpigmented that they didn't even show up on my lid and just looked chalky. the darker colours are slightly better, but need to be built up to make them as pigmented as they appear in the pan.

as you can see from these swatches, the lighter colours are virtually nonexistent and the darker ones are still very wishy washy, even the dark black looks like a faded brown. it's really disappointing because they really are nice colours in the pan and if only they translated that well onto the lids this would've been a winner. i can't even tell you how well these last as i tried to create several different looks with this palette, but didn't like any of them, they looked chalky and like i'd had my make up on for three days and it'd just faded away. i just couldn't get this to work for me at all and i don't think i'll be getting any use out of it.

unfortunately a disappointing product that i was really really excited about! but i suppose this is an example of you get what you pay for, i don't think i should've expected that much from a £4.00, ten pan eye shadow palette from a low end, high street brand. but, that said, i still love their single, matte eye shadows, i have a few of those and they're a million times better than this palette! i know people love the undressed and undress me too palettes so i think i might give those a go.
have you got this palette, what did you think? do you have any mua favorites or recommendations?
